THE BROWNS OF CHILE

Some of my best hopper days have come on the windiest days. If it is warm and windy, browns keep an eye out for hoppers that end up in the water. On a twisty, winding creek like Zorro Spring Creek, it takes a good caster to keep the fly 'in play'. Gusts can move your line and fly a good ten feet from the target. Snappy casts and tight loops will help. Here, angler/guide/fly tier/artist, Sebastian Letelier and a local gaucho's son and I fish into a gale, but big browns were all over our hoppers and beetles. Everyone else moved into the canyon or back to the lodge (for some tasty empanadas/snacks) and we had an entire afternoon on the spring creek to ourselves. Tip - If you are going to place that gets some wind (about everywhere) practice on windy days, not just calm, easy days.

I can only hope that Zorro Creek spring creek is the Galilea family's home esa.! I have a week booked there next season. My kind of stuff with the added pleasure of dealing with windy conditions to dedicated target areas...loved the sequence, Harry Robertson
